Day 1: Monday 16 May, 1300 – 1800 UTC

Featuring:

  • Introduction and welcome from Brendan Quinn, IPTC Managing Director and Robert Schmidt-Nia, IPTC Chair
  • A special timeslot for new IPTC members to introduce themselves
  • Guest speakers:
    • United Robots speaking on robot journalism
    • Axate on micropayments for publishers,
    • Kairntech on their content classification system developed with Agence France-Presse
  • Maximilian Lauter, Justin Lewis and Yoni Nachmany from The New York Times on the NYT PaperTrail system, extracting value from the NYT print archive
  • Updates from IPTC Working Groups:
    • IPTC Sports Content Working Group, reporting on a new standard in development representing sports data in RDF
    • IPTC NewsCodes Working Group, reporting on latest updates including work with Wikidata
  • Networking time for members and guests to get to know each other better

Day 2: Tuesday 17 May, 1300 – 1800 UTC

  • Guest speakers:
    • Bria.ai on their AI-backed image manipulation and synthetic media API
    • Henrik de Gyor, DAM consultant and author, on the latest in synthetic media
  • Margaret Warren of Startup Member ImageSnippets talking about what she learned creating NFTs of her artworks
  • IPTC Working Group updates:
    • IPTC Photo Metadata Working Group
    • IPTC Video Metadata Working Group
    • IPTC News in JSON Working Group
    • IPTC NewsML-G2 Working Group
  • A discussion on building a data model for the IPTC News Architecture that is separate from NewsML-G2 (in XML) and ninjs (in JSON)
  • Networking time for members and guests to get to know each other better

Day 3: Wednesday 18 May, 1300 – 1800 UTC

Featuring:

  • Guest speakers:
    • Laurent Le Meur of EDRLab giving an update on the Text and Data Mining Reservation Protocol which has now presented its specification as the final report of the W3C Community Group
  • IPTC Committee sessions:
    • IPTC PR Committee Report, led by Linda Burman
    • IPTC Standards Committee Meeting, led by Paul Harman of Bloomberg, IPTC Standards Committee Chair
    • A presentation from the Board on some proposed changes to the IPTC Articles, to be voted at the IPTC AGM in October
  • An update on the latest work from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authority (C2PA) and Project Origin in fighting misinformation and disinformation in the news
  • Networking time for members and guests to get to know each other better

 

The Spring Meeting includes Networking time where members can meet and virtually mingle with each other to discuss the day’s topics and meet industry colleagues from around the world.
