Attendees at the Media Provenance Summit held in Bergen, Norway on September 22, 2026.

Media provenance and authenticity experts from around the world gathered in Bergen, Norway on Tuesday September 22nd to collaborate on the future of digitally signed media, protecting publisher identity and using cryptographic provenance to ensure audience trust in media content.

At the event, co-organised by Media Cluster Norway, the BBC and the IPTC, we heard speakers from AFP, BBC, CBC/Radio-Canada and Paris Match who all spoke about their ongoing work producing content that is signed using C2PA technology, along with a project representing over 80% of the Norwegian newspaper industry.

A vendor “lightning round” brought 11 vendors together to pitch their content provenance and authenticity solutions to attendees, showing real C2PA and CAWG Identity solutions that can be used today.

Copies of the IPTC's new guide, "Media Provenance for News Publishers"
The IPTC’s new guide, “Media Provenance for News Publishers” walks newsrooms from concept to implementation and delivery of C2PA and verified publisher identity.
In addition, IPTC launched its new book: Media Provenance for News Publishers, an 84-page guide for newsrooms showing how to encourage stakeholders to understand and endorse media provenance projects, how to decide where provenance fits into newsroom workflows and where to begin, and then walks technical readers through implementing C2PA, CAWG Identity Assertions and standardised metadata assertions in a way that is compatible with C2PA validators and current best practice. The book is free, in printed, PDF and HTML format, to all IPTC member organisations and attendees to our Media Provenance events.

We also heard from Microsoft Research on its forthcoming research examining user experience aspects of C2PA, looking at which icons and information give the best information to consumers of news and other types of content.

The IPTC would like to thank Media Cluster Norway for once again hosting us in Bergen, Agenda Vestlandet for sponsoring the project, and to the BBC for co-organising help.
